This document is the second release of the report describing the elements needed to correctly design the Pilots of SDGs-EYES. Those requirements identified to feed the platform and tools’ design in WP4, building from science from WP3 and users’ feedback from WP2, are here reported. Leaving the context of SDGs’ indicators addressed to concomitant Deliverables in WP3, here the Pilots’ needs in terms of data sources, preparation and processing steps, as well as results presentation to end-users are described, taking into consideration the top-down (science-driven) side, but also embedding preliminary results of more in-depth engagement of stakeholders through WP2 (bottom-up or user-driven approach for co-design).
SDGs-EYES has five Pilots that cover seven SDGs indicators in the biosphere realm (SDG13, SDG14, SDG15). To compile the previous Deliverable D5.1, information to describe requirements behind Pilots have been initially collected among Pilots’ (co-)leaders, via a survey, facilitated by tabular format, and they were kept updated and transferred to GitHub to remain internally available as “in progress” documentation.
The final list of datasets useful to feed indicators calculation algorithms was consolidated summarizing the main aspects regarding formats and ways to access. In total 54 datasets were confirmed, 26 from Copernicus-related sources, 17 from other authoritative international portals, 11 from national to local archives for the Pilot domain countries (Romania and Italy). Not all datasets are direct input to algorithms (almost half of them, 26), this will depend on information about their resolution, accuracy, quality evaluation: some will serve as complementary information to extend periods of availability or to fill gaps, some other will act as reference dataset for validation or crosscomparison.
In the last year, some almost final decisions on data preparation, as for example the final Area of Interest (AoIs) and processing steps were made. The same applies for the ways in which the results can be made available to end-users, whose preferences were better re-analyzed in the last months in cooperation with WP2.
