SatCen SDGs-EYES Climate Security pilot delivers the first estimation of the SDG indicator 13.1.1
The indicator implements a Machine Learning model based on the use of EO and collateral data in the Sahel region and it is able to estimate the number of buildings and people affected by floods.

EARSC Attended the 11th Plenary Meeting of UN-GGIM: Europe in Geneva
EARSC engaged with the statistical community and discussed with NSOs European capabilities in monitoring the SDGs by leveraging Copernicus data with specific examples of the SDGsEYES and ESA SEF projects.

Exploiting Earth Observation (EO) capabilities to address SDGs indicators for the safety and security of the citizens
Within SDGs-EYES, SatCen is defining a workflow to calculate the indicator 13.1.1 “Number of deaths, missing persons and directly affected persons attributed to disasters per 100,000 population”, showing how EO data can become key to address critical situations in vulnerable regions.

After the opening of the call for abstracts in December 2023, and the receiving of a number of interesting abstracts, the session proposal that was submitted by EARSC and CMCC was successfully accepted by the organising committee of the EGU24.
Coming Up: pilot consultation workshops
The SDGs-EYES project builds a portfolio of data products to facilitate monitoring of SDGs. Service products will be developed and evaluated with user communities in five pilot areas. In the coming months, consultation workshops will be organised to demonstrate the data products and collect feedback.
Updates from The SDGS-EYES Coordinator
This new year has brought with it many changes to us all, and this wave of change even reached us at CMCC with the departure of the previous scientific coordinator and the assigning of a new one. The beginning of a new year also meant that a new phase of the project has started and many relevant scientific conferences will take place which will represent a great opportunity to further communicate the SDGs-EYES project

The conference brought together policymakers and industry leaders in the European space sector to discuss the current space landscape and ts future trajectory.

Call for abstracts: SDGs-EYES Session in EGU24 (Vienna 14 – 19 April 2024 and Online)
On 14th to 19th of April 2024 in Vienna, CMCC and EARSC are organising a session within the EGU24 to collect contributions on how to make use of Earth Observations data to address SDG monitoring and reporting. The deadline to submit the abstract is: 10 January 2024, 13:00 CET.
