EARSC participated in a panel discussion on Corporate Sustainability Reporting (CSR) at the “Reframing the EU Landscape for Corporate Sustainability Information” event.

Parallel to the SDGs-EYES activities in the City of Turin, a project of the National Plan for Complementary Investments (PNC) of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), entitled “Health and Equity Co-benefits Supporting Climate Change Response Plans in Italy” is currently underway.

The pivotal gathering aimed at exploring the integration of Earth Observation (EO) data into Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) monitoring, trying to assess its interaction with current and future policy frameworks.

SDGs-EYES maintains an agile methodology for the development of service products, closely engaging stakeholders. Just before summer, a round of pilot user consultation workshops have been completed. Workshops were organised as in-person meetings and online events....

The future of digitalization in Europe will also depend on the ability to size the opportunities offered by platforms like SDGs-EYES, whose potential can be transformed into a driving force for progress only through the synergy between technological innovation and coordinated policies, and the concrete commitment of all the actors involved.

On 9 July, 2024, at the IGARSS in Athens, CMCC presented exciting new research on the detection of small forest fires in the Mediterranean region using satellite data: “Sustainable Development Goals through Image Analysis and Data Fusion of Earth Observation Data”. 

The demonstration workshop aimed at showcasing and collecting feedback from stakeholders about the different services that have been developed so far within Pilot 1.

The workshop convened approximately 20 stakeholders, including representatives from local institutions, agencies, academia.

CMCC provided an oral presentation entitled SDGs-EYES: a novel European project to enhance, integrate, and monitor water-related SDG indicators during the special session Examples and proposals for innovative water governance.

The webinar demonstrated a case study to evaluate seawater acidification and eutrophication using Copernicus Marine datasets for the North Sea marine region to support monitoring of SDG14 “Life under water” with improved spatiotemporal detail. 

On the 15th of May 2024, EARSC attended on behalf of the SDGs-EYES project, the panel discussion in the context of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) at the Geospatial World Forum 2024.

The SDGS-EYES collaborative platform collects and provides comprehensive, geospatial data tailored for research projects focused on SDG indicators and allows users to securely access multiple JupyterLab instances.

Authored by T6 Ecosystems, with contributions by  EARSC, the plan details strategies to maintain and exploit the scientific and technological outputs. 

Organised by Politecnico di Torino, CMCC’s Marta Ellena attended and presented the SDGs-EYES project during the event.

During the event, EARSC presented initiatives like SDGs-EYES and ongoing projects from the European Space Agency (ESA), which offer valuable insights and enhancements for more accurate and comprehensive SDGs monitoring.

The active engagement of stakeholders and the co-design of tools is the key strategy for the realisation of successful tools for monitoring SDGs.

Within Pilot 2, CMCC is working on developing a risk assessment tool for targeted adaptation under the heat-health nexus context in close collaboration with ASLTO3.

SDGs-EYES builds a portfolio of data products to facilitate monitoring of SDGs. The project looks at benefits that EO and Copernicus services can bring.

Within SDGs-EYES, SatCen is defining a workflow to calculate the indicator 13.1.1 “Number of deaths, missing persons and directly affected persons attributed to disasters per 100,000 population”, showing how EO data can become key to address critical situations in vulnerable regions.

In the effort to enhance European SDGs monitoring, the EU-funded SDGs-EYES project is leveraging Copernicus for environmental sustainability.

The SDGs-EYES project builds a portfolio of data products to facilitate monitoring of SDGs. Service products will be developed and evaluated with user communities in five pilot areas. In the coming months, consultation workshops will be organised to demonstrate the data products and collect feedback.

This new year has brought with it many changes to us all, and this wave of change even reached us at CMCC with the departure of the previous scientific coordinator and the assigning of a new one. The beginning of a new year also meant that a new phase of the project has started and many relevant scientific conferences will take place which will represent a great opportunity to further communicate the SDGs-EYES project 

The conference brought together policymakers and industry leaders in the European space sector to discuss the current space landscape and ts future trajectory.

Represented by the CMCC research team, SDGs-EYES participated in the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting 2023. It was a great chance to communicate objectives and preliminary outcomes of the project and to connect with the international scientific community.

In response to the ongoing climate crisis and the pursuit of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UN 2030 agenda, UNITAR, together with Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, Technological University Dublin and World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine (WADEM), organised the first Climate Security International Research conference.

Represented by its Project Coordinator (Marco Maninci – CMCC), SDGs-EYES attended the EC-ESA Joint Earth System Science Initiative Science for a Green and Sustainable Society.

From 22 to 23 November 2023, CMCC hosted the second General Assembly of the SDGs-EYES project in Rome. This meeting served as a moment for partners to come together, share updates, delve into the project’s progress and explore the various pilot activities.
