Forest Tracker - From Data to Action: Forest Monitoring for Environmental Policy in Romania
This policy brief showcases a new tool for monitoring forest coverage and changes developed in SDGs-EYES. The Forest Tracker is a fully automated EO-based system that provides high-resolution maps of forest cover changes and disturbances across time. The service was piloted in the Olt River Basin in Romania and supports national and EU-level policy reporting on forest conservation and land degradation. The service delivers maps of forest loss, degradation, and regeneration based on annual time series of Sentinel-2 satellite imagery.
Strengthening Land Management with Earth Observation: Soil Erosion Insights from Romania’s Olt Basin
This policy brief showcases how the SDGs-EYES Soil Erosion by Water Assessment Tool in the Olt Basin can modernize soil monitoring, providing policymakers with the evidence they need to achieve land degradation neutrality and implement soil protection policies. By aligning with SDG 15.3.1 and EU indicator 15_50, the Soil Erosion by Water Assessment Tool enables timely targeting of conservation measures in erosion hotspots and supports credible national and EU reporting.
Climate Security Watch: Advancing SDG Indicator 13.1.1 to Improve Disaster-Impact Assessment in the Sahel
This policy brief showcases how the SDGs-EYES Climate Security Watch: The Sahel Impact Tracker – delivers a scalable Earth observation – driven platform that identifies where hazards meet human presence, advancing SDG 13 monitoring and resilience in the Sahel. Ministries and regional bodies can use the estimates to prioritise emergency assistance, reinforce critical infrastructure and plan adaptation.
Heat Health Risk Assessment: Strengthening SDG 13 Monitoring to Address Climate-Related Health in Urban Areas
This policy brief demonstrates how the SDGs-EYES Heat Health Risk Assessment provides a solid foundation for scalable monitoring of climate-related health risks with clear institutional relevance. The service represents a step forward for public health governance in the face of escalating climate challenges, delivering not only innovative technological solutions but also practical, actionable insights to support evidence-based decision-making and long-term planning.
Sea Surface Acidity and Marine Eutrophication Assessment - Transforming Marine Monitoring with Earth Observation
This policy brief demonstrates how Earth observation-based solutions can bridge key data gaps and strengthen monitoring of SDG 14 indicators. The SDGs-EYES project develops two services – Sea Surface Acidity and Marine Waters Eutrophication – that provide actionable, science-based insights to inform marine policies and ecosystem management.
FIRE-TRACE - Advancing Greenhouse Gases Monitoring for Climate-related SDGs Reporting
This policy brief present a new tool for greenhouse gas emissions monitoring. FIRE-TRACE is a new service to advance and harmonise GHG emissions monitoring. FIRE-TRACE integrates several data layers to capture the true complexity of fire behaviour. It is a research-driven, Earth observation-based tool that delivers timely maps of GHG emissions, including carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and particulate matter.
